Yucatán Peninsula
- Uxmal – impressive Mayan ruins not far from Campeche
- Mérida – biggest city in the Yucatán region with a pretty colonial center
- Chichén Itzá – ruins of one of the great Mayan cities, including the magnificent El Castillo pyramid
- Cancún – beaches, resort hotels and nightlife
- Cenotes – fascinating freshwater sinkholes and caves, great for swimming or scuba diving
- Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya – beautiful white sand beaches, good nightlife, large resorts
- Cozumel – tropical island off the coast of Playa del Carmen
- Tulum – idyllic off-the-grid coastal town with beachside bungalows (one of Paul’s favorite places!)
Chiapas
- Palenque – Mayan city ruins in a spectacular, lush jungle setting
- Agua Azul – turquoise blue river cascades and pools, perfect for swimming
- San Cristóbal de las Casas – picturesque colonial town high in the hills
- Cañon del Sumidero – take a boat ride through this deep river canyon
